Permission email marketing is one of the most effective ways of sending your promotional messages to targeted prospects. It is the key to making massive amounts of money with the push of a button.
Permission Email Marketing Vs. Unsolicited Email Marketing
Email marketing can be very profitable, but it becomes a menace when abused and used illegally through spamming. Spam email may also be referred to as unsolicitated bulk email, unsolicitated commercial email, or junk email.
Spammers can still earn quite a lot despite sending messages to millions without their permission. Even though they are irritating many of the recipients, these spammers can still rake up sales because of the numbers game. However, spamming is illegal and could get you deep in trouble with the law.
On the other hand, permission email marketing requires that you only send emails to people who gave you permission to send them. This means they have to opt-in and give their email for you to be able to send any messages.
There are 2 types of opt-in procedures most marketers use.
The single opt-in is not recommended since anyone can enter another person's email without their permission.
The double opt-in requires more effort on the part of the would-be subscriber, as they have to verify their subscription by clicking on the confirmation link sent in an email after they have initially opted in. This will reasonably assure that you won't get accused of spam since they have actually verified that they want to receive your messages.
How To Increase Your Opt-In Rates
The key to increase your subscribers is to define WIIFM (What's In It For Me). If you can explicitly mention what they're going to get if they give you the permission to send them email messages, then you could explode your subscription rate.
Offer freebies. Freebies can include a free report, a free subscription to a newsletter, a free trial for your products, or free updates on products and services. These are great incentives for them to join your list.
Some marketers advise to build a buyers list instead of a general list. The advantage of this is that these subscribers are much more likely to buy from you, since they have actually purchased something prior to opting in. The only downside is that it will take a longer time to build such list because it comprises only those who have actually spent money.
To build your buyers list, you could:
1) Offer your product at a bargain price, and promote it.
2) Invite JV partners to promote your special offer to their list, and give them 100% commissions. Even though you may not be profiting initially, you get to build a responsive list of buyers and make more money in the long term. You have nothing to lose anyway.
3) Ask other marketers to include your product as an additional bonus to their paying customers. Their customers have to opt-in first before they get the bonus.
Important Notes To Remember When Engaged In Permission Email Marketing
1) Do not assume permission.
Some marketers assume they have the permission to send promotional email messages when clients hand in their calling card, ask questions relevant to the niche, or browse within their WebPages. Some even use the list of other services within their company and send email messages without asking permission.
If you send unsolicited email messages, especially those that are promotional in nature, you may be perceived as a spammer. You surely do not want this to happen.
The right and legal way is for them to personally register their email address on your site, and confirming that they actually want to receive messages from you.
2) Mention an easy access to opt-out.
Some clients are afraid to be spammed, so some are skeptical in giving permission for online marketers to send them promotional materials. However, if you mention that they can easily unsubscribe anytime, they would at least have some confidence to subscribe.
To encourage them to sign up, you could write something like this below the opt-in box:
"Your Email is completely confidential. I will never share it with anyone and you can unsubscribe at anytime. I hate spam as much as you do!"
Potential clients will usually provide you permission, especially if the products and services you offer are of interest to them.
Most autoresponder services have an unsubscribe feature readily available, so you don't have to worry about any technical requirements in setting this up in your permission email marketing campaign.
3) Send concise messages without attachments.
When sending an email to your list, it's not advisable to send an attachment because many people fear that attachments may contain viruses or spyware that threaten their system and privacy as well.
It's better to send your content in the body of the email, than putting it in a separate file and sending it as an attachment.
However, if your email is too long, some email filters might block your messages from coming through. So the recommended procedure is to create a webpage containing all the information you want to tell your readers; then in your email, you send them a curiosity-arousing teaser, telling them to go to your webpage for more information.
Don't forget to send relevant emails only. If they're subscribing to a marketing newsletter, don't send them stuffs about dog food.
The key to permission email marketing is to offer the client information he cannot resist. This is usually done by asking yourself, "What will my potential customer want?" The answer to this question will spell out the ideal messages and promotions that will produce a favorable response.
