In this email from a person I don’t know, I was asked to help with a huge financial problem. Five and a half million dollars to be exact. I read the entire email carefully. It came to me as a feedback from an article I wrote. There’s something very wrong with this picture. The writer explains that this money is some sort of inheritance, and my help was needed to get it, because this individual was the next of kin. I’m a person who has special folders for things that I forward to law enforcement. Items I put in these folders are things from the Internet. Things like images, emails, or entire websites. As fast as I finished reading this email, it was being saved in one of these folders. In a few more mouse clicks, it was on its way to Federal law enforcement. Five and a half million dollars crossing international borders is nothing to play around with, (if this is a true event that the writer was telling me about). If it were true, there are resources available to help in these matters. You most certainly wouldn’t ask a total stranger for help. This is trouble waiting to happen. Lets say this is a scam. Okay. It’s still worth reporting. Financial figures of such great values are nothing to take lightly. What you don’t want to happen is to get in involved in criminal activity that plays with such high financial figures. On the other hand, you wouldn’t want to be conned into spending your time and money on something that doesn’t exist either. A little common sense can go a long way. Common sense can also keep people out of trouble. We live in times where electronic con jobs are getting to be a real problem. Don’t allow yourself to be involved with this kind of trouble.
