A New Career as a Trucking Lease Purchase Owner Operator: The Answer to a Better Future

Have you been considering a new career? Are you unemployed, or maybe just stuck in a rut and looking for a new direction? Driving a big rig up and down the interstates is not for everyone and it’s not an easy job, but for those that are drawn to the highway or a more nomadic way of life it might just be the answer.

The call of the open road is very alluring but make sure you realize that it will also be your new home. An over-the-road driver does get to spend time at home, but may be on the road two or three weeks at a time with some companies before he gets to spend some time at home if you are a company driver. You are in a better position to call the shots if you drive as a lease purchase owner operator or when you can buy your own truck.

Many want to drive a truck to travel and see the country. You will be traveling on a daily basis and you will see the country, mostly from behind the wheel of a truck. However, if you play your cards right, and preplan your trips you may be able to take in some of the sights along the way. It is a job though and if you’re driving as a lease purchase owner operator you will have to run it as a business and put it first or you won’t be in business long.

The average pay for a company driver for the first year is $35,000 with the potential of it increasing up to $50,000 as you gain experience. As a lease purchase owner operator or an owner operator you should be able to make over $100,000 per year. There is a high demand for drivers right now in the industry and there are many schools nationwide open and ready to train you for your new career as an over the road driver.

Every day is a new adventure in a new location. You’re not stuck in an office with a boss staring over your shoulder all the time. As a lease purchase owner operator you would be the boss of your truck and the business decisions would be up to you.

Your work days could be up to 14 hours with 11 of that behind the wheel driving an average of 2500 miles per week. There are other options though. You may choose to be a local driver or a short haul driver that is home every night. Local drivers usually are paid by the hour and make less than an over the road (OTR) driver.

You will find there are a variety of options available once you have finished your training and gained your Commercial Drivers License (CDL). You may wish to pull a tanker and deliver gas to your local convenience stores, deliver groceries to the local stores, or drive over the road. The future will be up to you!
