Starting a nursing staffing agency is not as difficult as you may think, it not only easy but it can provide such huge return on investment as compared to how much is needed to get started. Unless you have been living in a cave, you are not aware that Nurses are in continuous demand. That demand has created a huge niche for individuals wanting to start a nursing staffing agency.
If you are a Nurse, and you decided to start a nursing staffing agency or maybe you are thinking of becoming an independent contractor, let me tell you, it will not be too long before you secure your first contract and begin to bill.
The top two nursing staffing agencies in the US, Cross-County and AMN Healthcare themselves are predicting an increase in business between 10 to 20 percent. But, remember these percentages are based on a “US Gross Nursing Revenue In The Billions”
What does that mean to you, it means that even if you only capture 1% within your specific geographic area you will make a nice living for yourself. But, something funny happens when you begin a business, “business will come to you”. Perhaps you are only thinking about making an extra $25,000 or $50, 000 a year. Let me tell you, be prepared to make lots, lots more. Why? Well! Think about it, if you are doing a good job and facilities know you are there, they will begin asking you to cover additional shifts. At this point the automatic result is to hire additional help to cover those additional shifts. The growth occurs even if you are not looking for it. Why? Because, nurses are in huge shortage.
So why don’t these facilities use the larger nursing staffing agencies? And why would they use you? Good question, let me tell you why. I will summarize it this way “Out of sight, out of mind” No kidding! The benefit you have over a larger staffing agency is you are able to continuously visit a hand full of facilities and begin to generate a relationship. That relationship will result in business. It is easier for a manager to simply ask you to cover a shift and be done with it. You are there, available and willing.
How much should you charge? Listen, as long as you are not billing over your competition, it really does not matter. Facilities are desperate and will pay whatever you charge as long as it is reasonable. If you competition is charging $75 an hour, just charge $70, keep it simple.
Do your research and keep your expenses down. I have a saying that I often tell my clients. “Once you have a business card, your in business” Upcourse I know you need licenses, staffing forms, documents, legal stuff, business plan, all your mandated topics, recruiting processes and an understand of how to start a medical staffing agency works.
