What is Direct Mail Marketing? Direct mail marketing is a way of advertising in which advertisers mail printed ads, letters or other solicitations to large groups of consumers. Bulk-mail rates are used to lower the cost of the mailing, and targeted mailing lists are used to maximize potential response.

 

There are many different advantages to direct mail marketing, that few people think of, but the fact is, they’re benefits that you or your business could benefit from today.

 

Direct mail marketing is very quick to produce, you can prepare mail and send a small promotion within days. Direct mail is perfect for quickly testing products with direct consumers. You can also test prices, offers and new potential audiences. By using direct mail, you have complete control over the media, the audience, and of course, your offer.

 

You also get a faster response time from consumers. By doing it this way, you can project the final results of a mailing very quickly and accurately. You can also build an advertising campaign with double the confidence because of testing small lists, which you could then gradually build to larger lists in the future.

 

By using some carefully developed lists, you can target your mailing a lot more selectively than you can with most other media, like audiences, consumers and email marketing. You can reach almost any market segment, buyer profile, or area you feel is the most appropriate for your business. By doing this you can pick and choose who you send your letters and products too depending on how likely that type of person would be to respond, therefore giving yourself a better chance of receiving responses from people.

 

You can also make your mail more personal, by addressing people directly, and using informal language in your letters to appeal to the interest of the reader directly, by doing this you can appeal to them as a friend rather than a business.

 

Not only do you get benefits, but readers do to, because direct mail is a lot easier to respond to. You can include order cards or return envelopes, which make it a lot more convenient for people, as well as saving them time and money by providing them with the things they would otherwise have to go out and purchase in order to respond.

 

And of course, with direct mail, you can keep track of your most loyal customers, by creating a list of prime prospects, which allow you to return to the people who have responded in the past, boosting your chances of a wide spread response, and showing more clearly whether you had a positive or negative response.

 

In today’s market, direct mail has too many benefits to pass up, not only does it offer a widespread response from the people you want to hear from, but you’re more likely to get a response from those people too. It can help boost popularity by making your business well known, and of course, you’ll always know whether your ideas will be a hit or a failure by hearing about it from the would-be consumer first!
