Eureka_how a Pigeon Taught Me a Lesson!

This was when I was doing my daily routine job at about 6.30 in the morning. It was my daily dose of YOGA and Meditation. It happened today and the morning being slightly cold as is usual in Pune.

My day begins immediately after I brush my teeth with a feeding ceremony of birds with grains which sparrows, pigeons and myna partake of with a lot of excitement and Halla-Gulla. And mind you, all of them eagerly await this feeding ceremony. The whole scene is like a pleasant short movie, watching which you do not get bored at all since daily scene is a new scene; all of them so disciplined that they don’t disturb me by sitting on my head or shoulder etc. but efficiently doing their job of feeding in a competitive manners, utilizing their pecking order, boss of their groups maintaining corruption less law and order at all times except for the hulla-gulla of their mixed cacophony of feeding songs which is music for my ears and a barometer to test my level of concentration while meditating.

It was 3rd of my stretching exercises when I noticed a lone pigeon busy within himself collecting twigs from one of the plant pots lined along the railings on the balcony. I was surprised because all others were extremely busy feeding themselves quite vigorously except for this would be father pigeon. Since this had surprised me I became more intent on watching him. I could only see him because I was doing the stretches and not meditation at that time. It truly was a lesson for me when I noticed that it was picking up the twigs only and not disturbing the plant at all which was very delicate and small (of Curry-leaves). I am very eager to share my lesson to we Human beings that even such an unenlightened creature of a pigeon (usually we address some dumb friend as pigeon-head) has so much care for Mother Nature! And really how many of us care for environment or our surroundings? How many of us volunteer to grow a tree or sapling instead of cutting them and destroying seas, rivers, and forests and even dumping our garbage on Mt. Everest during various expeditions, have we spared even space? There also discarded garbage of dead satellites float around! In the name of progress we ruthlessly destroy everything then hold our head and cry hoarse standing on top of multi-storey buildings about ozone layer depletion, rising of sea-levels, melting down of glaciers. From this moment onwards let each one of decide to respect and restore the losses done to Mother Earth and Mother Nature.

By: Paul Ingersole | 20/12/2009
For gardens, a smaller version of a system similar to the sprinkler system we mentioned is installed. However, instead of using sprinkler heads you will use a drip system that gets the water supply to the part of the flowers or vegetables in your garden that need it the most. You can make a garden irrigation system for any size garden using the proper irrigation supplies.

An irrigation well is very common for assisting with the irrigation of large parcels of land. While it does require some maintenance, it is a very effective way to get water to the location. Irrigation canals are also very popular. For smaller irrigation needs, collection rain water in a barrel and having a valve to release it to your garden or lawn is a great way to use a natural resource.

Using a rain barrel is a very simple way to collect the water that runs down your rain gutters. You can install an on/off valve to your garden irrigation system. This gives you the option of using the rain water instead of paying for water to irrigate your garden. Don’t worry about it having a negative affect on your garden as rain water doesn’t contain any chlorine, fluoride, or chemicals that will have an adverse affect on your garden.

Drip irrigation works well on areas that are not level. Vegetables including onions, broccoli, lettuce, and cauliflower have been proven to grow best with a drip irrigation system than under any other type of system. Various flowers including roses also grow better and fuller with a drip irrigation system because precisely the right amount of water gets to each one.
