If you want to take action, this would be a good place to start!
We're in trouble. Make no bones about it, the world is slowly marching towards a severe energy crisis. We have known for years that the energy resources we use on a daily basis is not inexhaustable, yet still we take it for granted. All of our natural resources has a finite availability and even though we have known this for years still we consume and at an alarming rate.
It is easy to look the other way and expect governments to deal with this looming crisis but we are all responsible. All of us.
Oil and gas have reached ludicrously high prices due in part to their dwindling availability and that high price is passed on to us as consumers.
Some of the more ignorant among us espouse that notion that the energy crisis is nothing more than government and 'tree hugger' propaganda and we can all carry on as we like.
A quick look into our recent past will soon show a different story. Back in the 70's there were two global energy crises - the 1973 oil crisis and the 1979 energy crisis. In 1990 the price of oil took a serious hike. In those cases the development of technology (among numerous factors) helped to ease the pressure but the issue has never been off of the table.
Think about it. Even with the advances in technology, we can't continue to consume a finite resource. It will exhaust at some point. We can't keep taking can we?
So how soon will it be until it's gone for good?
Think about this for a minute. We have already used approximately 50 percent of the available oil. So at the current rate of consumption ( and that consumption will in fact increase with the rise in birth rates, development of countries etc) then it is estimated that the rest of the global oil well will be dry in 32 years! Chances are, that's in YOUR lifetime. Certainly your childrens, and definitely your grandchildren's.
What are we going to do about it?
If we are going to do anything about it we had better get our skates on. As a starter, we need to be aware of the importance of energy in our lives and then we have to take steps to minimize our use of that finite supply. There's a number of simple things we can do today. Switch off a light if you don't need it. Take the TV off of standby. Switch the car engine off when you're stuck in a traffic jam. You know what to do if you're honest.
A lot of people use the excuse of saying that "I'm just one person. Switching off my TV won't make a bit of difference." Yes it will! If we all switched off a TV we'd make a huge difference. That one person joins a collective and that collective make the difference.
Are there alternate energy options?
Of course there. There are a number of alternate energy solutions available to us these days - solar energy and wind energy for starters. Employing these kind of alternate power solutions is do-able and very cost-effective. You will not only cut down your power bills but also contribute to a better future for the world.
