Most people picture an upright style when they think of a vacuum. It is the common kind of vacuum cleaner that most people have in their homes. Central vacuum systems are also used, but these are mostly for large or multi-story homes. For the others, however, there is the canister vacuum cleaner. Having a lot of hardwood or tile in a home is a good reason to use one of these vacuums. Primarily, the canister vacuum cleaner is used on rugs. Upholstery and draperies, though, are other places where it is used. Homes with expensive furnishings often have a canister vacuum cleaner, as well as homes that are much older and therefore generally have hardwood floors instead of wall to wall carpet. The suction strength of a canister vacuum cleaner is not set up to be used on floors which have wall to wall carpet.
The canister vacuum cleaner, however, has a lot of good points and it can be a very good choice for the consumer who does not have a carpeted home. Despite the fact that the suction is not strong enough for carpeted areas, the vacuum works very well for the cleaning of areas rugs and hard floors. These rugs can be hard to clean, and using an upright vacuum on them is not a good choice. Older and more delicate rugs can be damaged by the suction strength. Some of these have small tassels and other intricate pieces which can be destroyed quite easily. By using a canister vacuum cleaner to clean and treat the rug well, the people who have the rug will receive many years of enjoyment and use from it.
Another reason that a canister vacuum cleaner is so important for some households is that it is often used on fine draperies and upholstery. This kind of cleaning is usually not needed for the newer furniture and curtains that can be bought in the larger chain stores. However, the more expensive furniture and draperies, as well as the older furniture and draperies that have been in families for many years, are generally cleaned with a canister vacuum cleaner. These vacuums remove dirt and hair very well, but they do not pull hard enough to do any kind of damage to the fabrics or the fibers that they are used on. Because of this, they are often used by those who have fine and expensive things and know that they must work to take care of them.
A canister vacuum cleaner will also work for a very long time. It is generally not used as extensively as an upright vacuum cleaner, so it often remains strong and works well for many years. Unless a vacuum cleaner is a very expensive brand, it wears out very rapidly. The cheaper brands have a warranty, but most people do not bother to have them repaired. Usually, they just throw them away and buy another one. With a canister vacuum cleaner, however, there is a good chance that the person will repair it and continue to use it.
