Proper equestrian apparel is not an option. It is mandatory to keep oneself safe in event of a mishap. Horse riding apparel such as helmets, boots, chaps and gloves contribute to the riders' safety, ensuring that they are protected while in the saddle.

Courtney King-Dye is a famed American Olympian whose life at age 32 was shattered by a horse accident. The Olympic equestrian was knocked unconscious when a horse she was training tipped over, causing her to fall. She was immediately taken to a hospital, where the doctors detected a career and life threatening skull fracture. Courtney was lucky to have gotten treatment in time. After recuperating for months, she made a return to horse riding.

Courtney had committed a mistake...a serious mistake. She was not wearing a helmet at that time. Who knows had she worn a helmet at the time, she could have saved herself from the trauma. Her tragic accident was a reminder to dressage riders, and all riders, never to give protective horse apparel a miss. Dress yourselves with proper gear will shield you from severe injuries in the event of such an accident.

Equestrian apparel is comprised of essentials such as riding shirts, pants, jackets, show shirts, show jackets, socks, half chaps, helmet, helmet covers, riding boots, tall leather boots, jump vests, gloves, belts, stock ties and footwear. This apparel has their own role in a pleasant and safe horse riding experience. It is best if you wear this apparel, particularly the helmet, chaps, riding boots and gloves, as a mandatory part of horse riding and don't treat them as optional.

The helmet is the most important safety gear in horseback riding. Never even try to ride a horse if you are not wearing a helmet. It is necessary to buy the right horse riding helmet. Wearing a helmet just for its sake would not be of much help. Purchase your helmet with a reliable source without compromising on price. A quality product would invariably come with a price but it is worth it. It will ensure the safety of your head if you have a horse riding accident. Go for a helmet which fits your head, as a larger or smaller helmet will not serve the purpose.

Boots come a close second to the helmet for providing you safety. Made of leather, equestrian boots are specifically designed for the purpose. Its design ensures that the foot sits correctly with the stirrup and does not slip through when riding. The toe area is enforced to help guard against any injury. Tall boots can be sub-categorized looking at options for hunting, field activities or dress events.

Chaps are sturdy coverings for the leg safety consisting of leggings and a belt. These are buckled on over trousers or breeches by the horse rider. Chaps are designed to provide adequate protection for legs particularly on a trail ride. Usually made of leather, chaps will ensure the safety of lower parts of your legs while horse riding. Gloves, like the chaps, offer protection to palms. Apart from protection in the event of an accident, gloves also keep the palms protected from underbrush.

Wearing proper equestrian apparel will ensure safety for you during horse riding. It is better to take some time to dress yourselves properly rather than taking any kind of risk. It is said, taking a bit of time is always better than meeting an accident.
