Choosing the Right Badminton Racket

Posted: Mar 19, 2011 |Comments: 0 |

Badminton is a popular sport, especially among girls. It is like tennis where both players rebound the shuttlecock to each other instead of a ball. The key is to not let the shuttlecock hit the ground. To play badminton, you need to get yourself a badminton racket.

Buying a racket for yourself can be a daunting task as there are so many varieties available in the market that it is easy to get confused. When browsing through available rackets, you should not go for the brand name, as the bigger the brand name, the more expensive the racket will be. Though the branded rackets are of a high quality, there is no guarantee that the one you buy will suit you. There are many companies that produce badminton rackets, such as Yonex, Wilson, Prince, and Carlton. All of these are well-known across the badminton world and most of the top players use rackets made by these companies. However, all of these are high-end rackets and you will have to part with a lot of cash to buy one of these.

The decision of which badminton racket to buy should be made based on your playing style. No two players are same, and each one has his/her own strong and weak points. The best choice is to be confident about your playing style before spending your money on the necessary equipment. A good idea is to seek the advice of your coach or any other person who knows about badminton and how to choose a badminton racket that will be right for you. The racket that you buy will be the final piece in the puzzle of making you a complete badminton player. Unless all of the other pieces fall into place, your racket will be a mere accessory and will not help you play badminton at all. You have to work on the basics first like the technique of playing badminton and the footwork. There are many things that you have to learn before you can be a master of the trade.

Apart from the basic skills that you must have for playing badminton, you need to work on your fitness and do some exercises to boost your physical strength. Hitting the gym will also be a good idea as building muscles will lend power to your shot. Unless you do these basics right, no matter how many badminton rackets your try, you won't be able to play well.

Another thing to consider when looking for badminton rackets is your wrist and overall body strength. Unless you have a very strong wrist, rule heavy rackets out of the equation. Then you can check out the lighter rackets, which require more power to hit, but would suit your wrist strength. One more thing is the grip size. Badminton rackets come in different grips sizes and you should choose one that you are comfortable gripping in your hand. If you can't grip a racket right, then you can't hit the shot with power.

There is no guarantee that the right badminton racket for you will come cheap. You may play better with the most expensive racket available, but if you buy it before you can develop your playing skills, it will be money wasted. Be patient, improve your game and you will be able to buy the right badminton racket for yourself.
