Effective Heart Rate Monitor Training

Today’s heart rate monitors have made attaining your fitness goals much easier because you get instant feedback during your training sessions. It takes all the guess work out of your training making sure that each and every workout meets your fitness goals.

Until you use a heart rate monitor it’s hard to get a true measurement of how effective your training is. Your heart is the key to all your fitness activities and it will tell you all you need to know about how hard you are exercising, your current fitness level, and how quickly you are recovering from your exercise routines. Knowing all this makes for a very effective training regimen.

A heart monitor consists of two pieces of lightweight equipment; there is the transmitter/monitor that you wear around your chest and the watch unit that you wear on your wrist. The watch unit receives signals from the transmitter and displays how fast your heart is beating per minute. In many cases the watch unit also functions as a sports watch and can tell you the time, function as a stop watch and as an alarm.

You can find heart measuring devices that don’t use a chest strap but instead work by measuring your pulse at your wrist. Measuring your heart rate in this fashion is okay but a chest strap will give you a much more accurate picture of how well your workout is progressing.

Research has shown that when using such a device that exercising at 60-70% of your maximum heart rate is the best when it comes to burning fat and endurance building while increasing your workout to 70-80% of maximum is good for increasing bodily fitness levels.

Additional features are also available with most heart beat monitors. Many include programmable alarms that allow the unit to warn you when you are approaching your pre-set limits for heart rate during exercise. Many will also tell you how many calories you have burned depending on different variable that can also be programmed into the unit.

A heart rate monitor is a great way to get the most out of your workouts. Using one can take your fitness to a whole new level and help you break through the training plateaus that were holding you back.
