Enjoy Working Out with an Elliptical Trainer

One of the biggest obstacles to regular workouts for many people is the frame of mind that they "hate" exercise. Usually, they don't mean they hate getting physical exercise, such as through walking, gardening or playing sports. What they mean is they find working out on a gym machine over and over again boring, difficult – even torturous.

An elliptical trainer is the perfect solution for people who hate working out because they feel it's too monotonous or too hard. Unlike exercise bikes or treadmills that can quickly wear out your muscles, elliptical trainers feel easier during workouts. There are a couple of reasons why elliptical workouts feel less strenuous.

First, elliptical training is low impact, and there isn't a lot of stress on joints as there is with other types of workouts. When you use an elliptical machine, you're moving in a way that feels completely natural for the body. It feels very comfortable to work out on an elliptical machine. Stationary bikes on the other hand involve doing an activity that's clearly exercise. The same can be true of rowing machines or other types of exercise equipment.

Since it doesn't feel uncomfortable or hard to work out on an elliptical machine, people are inclined to work out for longer periods of time. They also don't tend to get as bored with elliptical workouts. You can move backwards or forwards for variety, plus adjust the incline. Machines with pre-programmed workout capabilities make it easy to add new challenges and variety to each exercise session.

Quality elliptical machines are also quiet enough that you can watch TV at a comfortable sound level while working out. Listening to music or audio books is another great way to keep elliptical workouts interesting. You don't feel so overly exerted that you can't focus on what you're hearing or watching during an elliptical workout.

Ultimately, the perceived ease and enjoyment of working out on an elliptical machine helps people overcome the misconception that they "hate" exercise. They then work out more regularly and for longer periods of time. The big payoff with elliptical machines is great results.

You can get good results working out on an exercise bike or treadmill, but you'll probably get even better results with an elliptical trainer. Elliptical workouts burn big calories, and they exercise the upper body as well as the legs and lower body. Most people are amazed at the strength they gain and the fat they lose with a 20 or 30 minute elliptical workout 3 or 4 days of the week.
