How to Get the Most Out of Your Workout

For a lot of us exercising is something that we have to convince ourselves to do. The benefits are tremendous. You feel fit and more energetic; you look great and deal with stress more efficiently. The advantages are many and yet sometimes you may feel that you just aren’t getting enough out of your workout. Are you exercising for body building for weight loss or weight training? Here are some basic tips to getting the most out of your workout. 

 

  • Get a physical: Check with your doctor to ensure that you are physically fit to take on the kind of workout you have planned. It may also be a good idea to speak to a trainer, especially if you haven’t worked out for a while or if this is your first time.
  • Keep your goals clear: Set short and long term goals for yourself. This gives you more focus and clarity when it comes to planning and achieving what you want from your workout. 
  • Don’t rush it: If you haven’t worked out for a long time or are new to weight training, take it one step at a time and don’t rush it. So if you haven’t run for a long time, don’t try to run 5 kilometer on your first day. Begin easy and pace yourself. Steadily increase the difficulty of your strength training as well exercise levels on your cardio gym equipment.
  • Eat well: Even if you plan to slave on your cardio gym equipment to achieve your weight loss goal, remember to eat right. Your body needs the energy to exercise well. Eat a balanced diet and eat something healthy at least two hours before your workout.
  • Exercise Right: When you begin working out initially the body draws energy from carbohydrates and thereafter from fats. So plan your strength training exercise for the initial part of your workout and then exercise on your cardio gym equipment. This will ensure that you have the energy and the focus for both forms of exercise. This is also crucial for people exercising for weight loss as then the entire time you work out on cardio gym equipment you are burning fat and not carbohydrates.
  •  Hydrate yourself: Drink plenty of water through the day and not just before, during and after a workout. It takes your body quite a while to absorb the water you drink and to stay hydrated through the day, drink water at regular intervals.
  • A protein boost: If you are into body building or weight training then a protein shake before and, or, after a workout is a great way to keep the muscles strengthened.
  • Alternate your workout routine: Don’t stick to the same exercise routine on a daily basis. Give your body a complete workout by incorporating different styles of exercise. Take in a yoga class twice a week and schedule pilates for another day in the week.
  • Quality over numbers: It is important for you to ensure you exercise in the right form rather than simply complete a number of exercises. The posture of your body dramatically affects the effectives of your workout.

 

Finally, encourage yourself and treat yourself when you achieve your small and big goals. And in times of disappointment don’t give up, get exercising instead.
