Sanfrantellos in Tinley Park may look like a nice little family restaurant, but according to some former employees, it is anything but. The restaurant was taken over by two men from Albania who proceeded to sexually harass and cajole the underage employees, including one who filed a sexual harassment charge with them with the EEOC (Equal Employment Opportunity Commission). The sexual harassment, according to the complaint, was ongoing and involved asking for sexual favors as well as repeated sexually demeaning remarks at Sanfrantellos.
The employee, who wants to be anonymous, said that she feared going to work but needed the job to pay for her college expenses. She repeatedly told them to stop harassing her but to no avail. Instead, the owners made jokes about being in the mob in Albania and how many people they had buried in their own country.
The female employee left the place of employment and found another job. The owners then stopped payment on her last paycheck and told her that if she did not crawl back, they would not give her the money. She finally told her mother what happened.
Her mother contacted the EEOC who advised that her daughter should file a complaint against the company. The daughter said she was embarrassed to tell her mother what was said to her in the course of the workweek. When the mother called Sanfrantellos to discuss the matter, the owner told her that he did not care about the law.
Sanfrantellos in Tinley Park may seem like a nice place to eat, but those who innocently eat their meals in this place do not know what goes on behind the scenes. Most people who visit Sanfrantellos in Tinley Park are families and those who have been frequenting the restaurant for a long time.
Sexual harassment in the United States is taken very seriously and complaints are filed by the EEOC. In addition to filing a sexual harassment complaint, an employee can also take the matter to civil court where they can sue for more damages. The teenager in this case said she is not sure if she will sue Sanfantelos for sexual harassment, but is pursuing the EEOC complaint as well as one with the Labor Board.
