Gibraltar - the Finest Caves in Europe and Its Natural Preserve Makes it Perfect for Bird Spotting

Gibraltar is a city on the Mediterranean near the southern tip of Spain. Gibraltar is city fought over for 1200 years by Moors, the Spanish and the British. Today Gibraltar is self-governed by a legislative assembly but is a British territory. Gibraltar has duty-free shopping, the climate is mild and tourism is an important industry. The best way to get to Gibraltar is walking across the border from Spain. Tourists do not need a ticket to cross the border but need their passport.

The town of Gibraltar sits on northwest end of the Rock of Gibraltar enclosed by fortress walls. The Moorish Castle and its buildings are in the town of Gibraltar. Narrow passages and long steep steps provide the paths through the town and lead to its churches, and other historic buildings. The Gibraltar Museum, houses both military and archeological artifacts, and the rare remains of a Neanderthal man. Among the sites in the south end of the town is the bay where the HMS Victory, brought the body of Admiral Nelson, killed in the Battle of Trafalgar. Catalan Bay, the fishing village is in the east area of Gibraltar along with several other historic sites.

Cave explorers visit Gibraltar to search what many call the finest caves in Europe. The upper rock of Gibraltar is a nature preserve and a perfect spot for bird-watchers and botanists. Dolphin watchers enjoy visiting the Bay of Gibraltar as divers practice their diving skills among the sunken ships in the seawaters of the Bay.
