The capital of Macedonia is Skopje, the birthplace of Blessed Mother Teresa. It is a city striving to recover from the devastation left behind by the earthquake of 1963. The city has rebuilt two previous times, in its long history, which began in the third century. Some relics of its past are present in the museums and structures still standing in Skopje.

Today, Skopje is a city of monuments, historic buildings, museums and an international cultural center. The people of Skopje love music and bring performers from around the world to entertain in their Concert Hall. The annual Jazz Festival is a great event where jazz and blues, classical and modern sounds of music draw large crowds. Skopje has art galleries, museums, theatres and much more to offer tourists. Education is a primary goal and two Universities offer degrees in Medicine, Engineering, the Arts and Sciences and have large enrollments.

Restaurants are abundant! The best ones are those the locals visit. There is no shortage of Shopping centers, gift shops, specialty shops and boutiques. Bus service is available in the city, and to outlying areas. The rail system serves over one million passengers a year, and two airports service Skopje. Three tour companies offer tours of Skopje and other areas of Macedonia. Skopje is a sports centered city with sports centers, stadiums, and fitness centers, for the many sports activities in Skopje. Accommodations are available at Hotels, B & B, camping sites and rental houses for tourists in Skopje. Visas are a requirement.
