Feeling the rush of fresh breeze touching the skin and enjoying the sights and sounds of the unrolling countryside is what many biking enthusiasts long for. Well recognized by the biking community as a destination that offers some of the finest biking adventures available, Thailand has a wide variety of biking terrain including trips in the mountainous northern region, the flatter and very scenic central regions and the very beautiful southern region with its many islands and resort areas.
In Thailand, there are many bike tour operators that offer you an excellent option for an organized cycling trip. If you are into the rugged cycling there are also many tours and trips available for the off-road mountain biking enthusiast.
When planning a trip it is usually best to get some advice from a local company or from someone that has experienced the roads. On reason for this is that some areas may be prone to lots of traffic, particularly in the south where there are fewer options for travelling from point to point and higher traffic density. That said, most roads do offer an ample shoulder for small motorcycles and bicycles so, generally, even the more busy roads are not dangerous.
When cycling through Thailand what you will notice everywhere you go is that the people are friendly and will try to be helpful. Many people will know a few words of English, especially at the tourist attractions. The sites are fantastic the food is delicious, and travel can be very cost conservative especially if camping.
Nearly all of the National Parks provide camping facilities that are included with the price of admission. The admission charges are relatively high though (400 baht per person) and it is just as likely that a hotel can be found for similar cost… or cheaper.
Cycling during the rainy season – roughly May to November but varied for the different regions – may make camping difficult and time should be budgeted for drying out clothing items to avoid mildew problems. The weather is usually best suited to cycling from November to March when the temperatures are more mild and there is little rain.
If you are looking for a bike tours that will provide you with a terrific natural get-away and a fantastic cultural experience then Thailand should not be missed.
