About Sunglasses

Sunglasses have darkly tinted lenses to protect the eye from over-exposure to bright light or sunlight. It is necessary to wear sunglasses that comply with Australian Standards 1067 to get the correct eye protection.

There are three different standards from 0 to 4, with 4 offering the best protection and 0 offering none. Expensive sunglasses are not necessarily the best for eye protection. Very often cheaper ones are better - it all depends on that little number. They are particularly useful on the beach or snowfields where the sunlight is reflected by the light-coloured surroundings. Snow blindness can result when skiers or others out on the snow on a sunny day do not wear sunglasses.
