Designer Clothing… Over Hyped?

Fashion is an international industry reflecting different tastes, situations, preferences and styles. Every shown detail depends on the way it is looked at for people to choose a personal style, as well as new wardrobe or ideas for your next outfit. While on the broad list of Fashion Week Shows whether in Paris, Milan or New York, to name some, everyone experiences an overdose of celebrities, models, designers looking for the new trends that can appeal to their bodies or personalities, since they are considered the trendsetters in fashion today. There is also an excess of new designers and fads that bring to the table the grand question of, is designer clothing over hyped?

To some limited group of people, the fashion extravaganza can be the greatest moment for them to appreciate how to be a better socialite or role model, to others; it can be a waste of time since the clothing showcased in worldwide runways will never be an item for their wardrobe being extravagant, and ridiculously overpriced.

Designers need to promote their creations to the extent they believe it is needed for their sales and reputation to increase. Some people believe that designing is a western concept to hype up some already created, and cheaper, pieces of clothing to make consumers spend a hundred times more for the same product, but with an exclusive label tag. Designing is a creative and serious job just like painting, acting, singing, writing, among others. Fashion design is not only about clothing and chic women, creating a garment is a characterization of an indepth insight into the consumers mind and soul resulting in a beautiful masterpiece for the client to feel beautiful and unique. Designers help women and men with their self esteem when it doesn’t exist, and they help increase it on those downer days.

What you appreciate in the runway may never cross your mind to be the dress you will wear for this weekend’s bash or for your friend’s wedding, since sometimes they are way over the top, but it is a means to appreciate innovation and what others will wear. Some people consider designer clothing to be useless, when in fact it shows the endless possibilities for creative consumer satisfaction. Visiting a fashion show or a fashion designer’s showroom or atelier, could be translated as visiting a contemporary museum’s latest exhibition, or going to an international film festival. As every other industry, it could be overwhelming and your expectations might not be met, but it is a cultural and artistic experience.

Believing that fashion design is over hyped is a concept for people who think that fashion shows and designer clothing is just a means for models to be famous, celebrities to be on the spotlight and rich people to continue splurging on, but in fact, fashion shows are made by the designers, for the designers and they are about the designers. They express their ideas, their first drafts, their thoughts, and their uniqueness in one night.
