How to Shop Online: Effective Tips to Safe Shopping Online

Since the cost of gas is debilitating, many people are using the internet to fulfill their fashion and clothing needs.  Shopping online provides you with a very large selection and often amazing sales and discounts.  Looking in magazines for trends and actually finding them near you can also be a daunting experience.  Even though I preach and preach that you should always try things own, sometimes those gorgeous heels would be perfect for the silk sheath dress you find with an online merchant.  Understanding exactly how to shop online can make being a fashionista even more fun.

Protect your information.  With the epidemic of identity theft cases growing, it is in your best interest to make sure that your personal information is safe. Secure servers keep your information safe.  Look for icons like a gold security lock and privacy/security policies. Read them before you purchase anything.

Read the Return Policy.  Shipping back an item that doesn't fit shouldn't cost you anything, but some online merchants do not offer you that option. Read the fine print. Some items like lingerie and swimsuits cannot be returned.  Make sure the return policy works with your plan to purchase. I really like ZAPPOS. When you order shoes from them, they send you clear instructions on how to return the shoes. They even include instructions about trying on the shoes and then returning them.  Their return policy is clear and simple.  You can return shoes at the click of a button.

Know the Merchant's Reputation. A growing number of online merchants are popping up in Cyberspace. Just the same, a growing number of online merchants are closing up shop.  If you plan on spending large amounts on clothing from one online merchant, be clear on their reputation.  Make sure the online merchant will be around later on.  I was referred to a shop, which supposedly sold Authentic COACH handbags. After contacting the merchant to make sure they were legitmate, I waited before making a purchase. Thank goodness I waited. The merchant's site was no longer available.

Have a well-defined plan.  Be absolutely positive about your online shopping needs.  Have a plan of what you want and what you need.  Do not deviate from this plan.  Resist the temptation to purchase on impulse. Impulse buying, more often than not, ends up being full of regrets.

Know a tailor or seamstress.  Buying online doesn't allow you to make sure something will fit properly. Have in mind a tailor or seamstress you can utilize to ensure that clothing you purchase online is just right for you.

 Avoid buying a larger size to be safe.  Know your measurements. Have a friend help you take your measurements. Each online merchant should provide you a key to their sizes to assist you with buying your right size. Be completely familiar with their sizing chart before making a purchase.
