Kyanite is a semi-precious stone which is typically mined in a light blue shade. However, it could also be found in various other colors like white, gray, green, colorless and even almost black. This stone has a translucent to transparent look that is normally vitreous. It also possesses a bladed habit.
A unique attribute of kyanite would be the two different hardnesses it has. Many minerals just have a single hardness but there are some, like kyanite which actually have two. The hardness of a mineral is determined by its resistance to scratching which is demonstrated by that particular mineral. Kyanite’s two hardnesses depend on the cleavage planes’ direction in its internal structure.
Kyanite also has several interesting metaphysical properties.
