Rock the Trend: Slouchy Trousers

For Fall 2008, there is no hotter trend the slouchy trouser for women.  It combines the always fashionable menswear trend and infuses it with a touch of classic femininity.  The trousers are best described as low-slung and roomy.  They have a relaxed yet tailored quality that is very appealing.  However, to wear this trend the right way you must consider proportion and fit over anything else.

At the Waist.  For a great fit, go for a two to three inch band that fits snuggly (not tightly!) around the hip bone.  This helps anchor the silhouette.  For added volume and architectural interest, look for a pair of slouchy trousers that have a single pleat at the waist as well.

In the Leg.  Though the cut of the slouchy trouser is naturally baggy, there should be a slight, but noticeable, flare through the lower part of the leg.  Ladies, you definitely want this flare because the same width all the way through the trouser will make your thighs look heavy. 

At the Hem.  No matter whether you are short or tall or are partial to flats or heels, you will want to make sure the hem skims the ground for the most leg-lengthening effect.  Some additional tailoring may be in order to achieve the exact look depending on your proportions.
