Rock the Trend: Tiered Dresses

Are you fearless with fashion?  Then try this, the 60’s chic tiered dress.  This funky classic can be updated with a few contemporary pieces.  You will have heads turning in no time when you show people that effortlessly chic can be applied to any era in fashion.  Read on to see how to update the funky, playful, tiered dress from the 60’s.

Get the Right Style.  To begin rockin’ this trend, you need to find the tiered dress that comes in the perfect style for you.  Beyond the tiers of the tiered dress, the dress can come in a variety of styles, including spaghetti straps, strapless, wide straps, ¾ length sleeves and more.  Begin by picking the dress with the best strap or sleeve style for the contemporary pieces that you will be coordinating with it.  For example, if you plan on wearing a cardigan, jacket or overcoat with your tiered dress, then go for a dress with minimal, thin, or no straps.

Get the Right Color.  Since this trend is for Fall and the tiered dress is going to be worn in daytime as opposed to evening, go for muted or darker colors.  Black, dusty rose, eggplant, forest green, and navy are some hot colors for this trend.  Also, stay away from excessive detail on the tiered dress of your choice; avoid sequins and sparkles like the plague!

Add the Right Pieces.  Now that you have found the perfect tiered dress in the perfect color, you are probably wondering what to do next.  To begin updating your look, go for pieces such as soft, fine knit cardigans, opaque tights, delicate jewelry (cameo pieces work well here), lightweight wraps or shawls, or patent leather flats.  Being that the tiered dress is very feminine and flirty, add soft pieces that accentuate but anchor the outfit.  A great example would be a dusty rose tiered dress worn with navy opaque tights and a hip-length, navy cashmere cardigan.  The dusty rose dress is anchored but complimented by the dark tights and dark (and very soft) cardigan.

As a rule of thumb, try to add no more than two contemporary pieces to update the look of the tiered dress.  Remember, you still want the dress to be the main focus of the outfit, so don’t overwhelm it (or drown it out) by adding too many pieces.  Other pieces that work well together for this trend are: delicate jewelry + soft, knit cardigan; opaque tights + lightweight wrap or shawl; and patent leather flats + opaque tights.

Are you ready to rock the tiered dress?  Rock this trend on your next casual day at work or running your weekend errands and you will see how fun and fearless this look really is.  To get the most from this trend, try pairing different styles of tiered dresses in your favorite Fall colors with various contemporary pieces.  Most of all have fun with this funky and playful trend that mixes old with new in a completely unique way.  Good luck and happy shopping!
