Take Care of Your Saris in the Right Manner

Now that you have mastered the art of wearing saris and have a full range of them at home, you should know how to take care of them as well. Just like your precious salwar kameez, kurtis, and lehengas, saris too require a lot of attention so that you can even pass them to the next generation as valuable heirlooms. Indian women put in a lot of effort to make sure that their saris always look as new as possible. Since the saris form a very important part of an Indian woman's wardrobe, looking after them is very essential.

The best of the saris are kept only for certain special occasions and if taken care of properly, they can surely last for decades. You must have noticed that your mother has saris in her collection, which belonged once to her mother. You too can preserve these wonderful yards of cloth. What you need to remember is that the care for the saris differs according to the type of material.

If you have natural silk saris then always, store them in the darkest and driest part of the wardrobe and wrap them individually in mul-mul or muslin cloth. This will make sure that the saris don't get damaged due to moisture and gets the required air. When you are ironing your expensive saris then be careful about the temperature. You need to choose the temperature according to the material. You should always use the low temperature setting for ironing silk saris.

If you love wearing cotton saris, then you must note that they require a lot of care and maintenance. You can wash them at home but be careful as colors like navy blue, turquoise, and, black, bleed. Don't soak them in soapy water for long and wash them separately. Always dry these saris in the shade. Don't forget to starch it properly.

Extra caution and care play a huge role in the maintenance of georgette and chiffon saris. Wash then in cold water with a mild detergent. When you are wearing them, don't wrap them very tightly or use sari pins since these delicate saris can get damaged. If they come with heavy embroidered or zari borders then don't hang them for a long time as they may tear.

For organza and tissue saris you need to be careful and don't hang them for a long time as they can lose their shape. Store the saris only after wrapping them in muslin cloth. Occasionally you need to refold to prevent tears from appearing on the creases. Dry cleaning is the best option for cleaning these saris.

If you bear these small tips in mind then you can always boast of your grand collection of saris.
