DO YOU HAVE WHAT IT TAKES TO BE PUBLISHED
By Arthur L Burton III
To be published every writers dream. There is a way to ensure that your manuscript is published and that is to sell yourself to your readers. In the beginning, you could land an Agent, produce a manuscript and like magic you were published if your manuscript was good. Now the business has changed because there are so many writers just like you, and the bookstores are full of unsold books. Corporations like Barnes and Noble, Waldenbooks, and Borders Stores have taken over but they only accept known writers on their shelves. It takes a lot of marketing on the writer’s part to ensure that their books will sell once it is published. So many Authors make the mistake of paying internet companies to place their websites in a top position on Google and Yahoo, but even if your site is, number one who would know how to access your website. The new wave now is doing it yourself and that way you are in control. While writing your manuscript it is important that you begin making your name known to readers in your genre. The website should not wait to be designed once you finish your manuscript, but once you have the idea of writing your manuscript. The longer your name appears on the web and in posters and in your local newspapers the better your book will sell once it is on the market. Writing articles is one of the best techniques of building an online portfolio. Think about this for a moment, when you go to buy a book by a known writer, you find it, you carry it to the counter and you buy it. When you are looking for a new writer, you read the back of the book. The story line might be excellent but the writer does not have an extensive bio and now it a chance that you buy it. A writer of a mechanical book who has in his bio a degree in mechanical engineering will allow you to feel more comfortable with the information that is in the book, but if he has a degree in social services but he wrote a mechanical book you might pick the other author with the experience. If the writer has been working for mechanical magazine and has it in his bio, then it does not matter what he degree is in because he has proven himself with his articles. A writer needs to understand that marketing is the only guarantee that you will have success as a writer. There are some lucky ones, who wrote a novel and got a best seller, but there are more who have excellent well-researched novels and no one has ever heard of them because they do not market themselves.
Okay so what do you do?
You need to become somewhat of a graphic designer in order to save some money on business cards and flyers. The first thing you do is buy a software program called Adobe Photoshop and design yourself some flyers. The flyers should look professional and should contain colorful pictures to draw attention to the flyer to make people want to read it. The next you need is some business cards, you can download the templates from Microsoft for business cards and for twenty dollars go to staples and buy the business card paper and make your own cards. Please do not forget in the midst of all of the other things you still need to concentrate on your manuscript. There are so many ways to promote yourself free on the web that you can save a bundle by taking 20 minutes a day and research marketing information for your website and your unwritten manuscript.

Subconscious things women do that may indicate a lack of self-esteem/confidence to others, especially men?
By: Ecrivaine32 | 04-12-2006
In your opinion, what are some of the main things that women often do that can turn a guy with healthy self-esteem away?I've been thinking on this a lot lately, and it seems that a guy (at least a guy who doesn't have terrible self-esteem himself) can sense right away when a woman doesn't carry a high opinion of herself, and this, to my knowledge is not usually a huge turn-on by any means.I've been thinking about things that I do, that I know many other women commonly do and how to stop subconsciously playing out these habits - for example, explaining too much in detail as if to protect myself with a disclaimer all of the time or explain why everything I do is valid to others, as well as saying "I'm sorry" often, even when it's not appropriate, or when it's not even anything to apologize for and doesn't even have anything to do with me.I know there are many other women who do the same things, a lot of them by virtue of being mistakenly raised according to our gender, and for me and others, due to having a Southern upbringing. I've read the articles saying things like women nod too much, and I'd say things like a woman twisting her hair might give off those signals.So... Guys (especially), women, anyone, I ask:"What are these everyday things you might notice or look for as a sign that a woman is not attractive to you because of the way she demonstrates her lack of self-esteem?" And/or, men, is this even an issue for you? I'd love to get any advice or personal stories you have on this topic. Thanks!
Learning how to haggle with salesmen
By: Ecrivaine32 | 01-12-2006
I went to buy a bed yesterday at a Mattress Warehouse, and I would have never known -- had my much more aggressive roommate not done it for me -- that there was the opportunity to haggle the price down. I mean 'who KNEW?' She got the salesman to knock $200 or more off of it, when I would have forked over the money without a thought, thinking that I was bound to the numbers on the tag. This AMAZED me that anyone would know they could do this and do it well. I normally feel uncomfortable and let the salesman guide the entire sale. So, my question is two-fold:First, how do I know what types of products at what types of stores are eligible for haggling down to get discounts?Secondly, what are some tips for haggling? Is it something a very passive, nonconfrontational person like myself can ever hope to learn? Have you ever done this before and had it work? Thanks.
