Writing a Novel is Easy if You Just..

It is a common thing to believe that writing novels are hard. I agree that the editing is hard but telling the story is easy when you just listen to yourself tell it. It is no doubt that the famous writers have a different technique of writing than a beginner but it’s a process. If you have the desire to write Novels then you have to learn to sit down at the computer and just type. Yes there are some things that you will have to learn as a beginning writer but as you write and research you will learn it.

I might not be amongst the most famous writers out there in the field but I can say I have learned from my mistakes. I have learned to get into the story and let the story guide my writing. I sometimes get to a point and I haven’t completed my page goal for the evening but I stop when there is no more flow. I don’t wake up in the middle of the night anymore and write things down.  I let them simmer and think about it all day and the form my ideas. It is funny that a lot of writers disagree with my style but I am writing and living the story at the same time. It may sound crazy but writing fiction is definitely mostly from your imagination.

I wrote A Brand New Night for Murder in my mind and created Fred Soleos before ever putting it down on paper. I created Fred’s character and he had become a real person in my mind. When I wrote about him the story of his pursuing the criminal was real in my mind.

I drove to Hunts Point and I parked and I watched the Detective’s night after night pulling people over and I watched the way they interacted with people and I went home and used this in my Novel. My research, even though I was writing a fiction Novel was done in Hunts Point in the Bronx New York.

As I drove past a sign along the highway that said Town of Monroe I wrote my novel titled The Savior of the Woods and learned a great lesson. Don’t self – publish without an editor.

The essence of all of this is that if you have a desire to write a novel you don’t need to go to several thousand seminars to learn how to write a novel. The story should be in your heart already and then all you have to do is sit down and write it. It’s up to you how long it takes to write and how many hours you dedicate to it. The excuse I hear a lot is that there is no time to write but there is. If you only have a half an hour to write then you do your best but the writing of the story can be written in your mind and then added to the pages later.

Just remember sacrifice is the only way to accomplish any goal you have in life.
