Balloon Power

stock promoter

The entire world watched as the saga of the “balloon boy” unfolded.  The CNN’s, BBC’s, Newspapers, Radio and every other reputable news media covered the horror of a child soaring through the sky perilously close to meeting an untimely fate.

In the end it was a HOAX.  The entire world had been duped by an egocentrically, uneducated, self-centered nut case, or was this man a “nutcase”.

One could argue he is a genius – (perverted and twisted though). Using common household items he pieced together a balloon, then using his telephone, he alerted the world of the horror which he had secretly witnessed, hoping to reap big rewards out of his orchestrated drama.

Amazing!! So imagine this, if the balloon boy’s father son combo can motivate the entire world media at a nominal cost – How for gods sake can a simple person, say like me, have even a remote chance to survive the grossly over financed, marketing campaigns orchestrated by media heavyweights to dupe you into buying a share in a company?

You and I have absolutely no chance.  Ask the clients of Bernie Madoff, the purchasers of BRE-X etc – what was that!  It was the sound of you losing your shorts.

Was there a JFK conspiracy? Are there UFOs?  Are there alien’s amongst us?  Is the world flat?  I don’t know, but some people think all the aforementioned are true.

With all of his, hey I have a new word, “Balloon Power”.  What can a naïve plebe like me do to pop the Balloon?

Simple rule – check the story out Before you report it.  We could give you many reasons why the media totally screwed up the Balloon boy story – but we won’t – because I can’t afford to pay for lawyers to defend my allegations.

Let’s get back on track – the only way to beat Balloon Power is to pop it.  So when you want to invest in a stock – be wary of Balloon Power.

So how do we fight this new phenomena called Balloon Power.  Simple, use the grey matter between your ears before you use your hands to write a cheque.

When a stock is touted to you – don’t believe what you read, go beyond the story, and do some research.

Read the company website, press releases, annual reports, filings, articles, hire experts, accountants, lawyers, financial advisors, look at track record, and the experience of management then make your own decision based on what you have learned.

Do you really think the media did any research at all when the Balloon boy was allegedly soaring with the birds?

So I say help the word stamp out Balloon Power – Pop the bubble and start by doing a little homework before jumping into that hot new stuck and soaring into financial oblivion.

Silent Witness - A Forensic Accountant's Tale

By: beyli | 16/12/2009
Forensic accounting is neither glamorous nor nearly suspenseful enough to rate a Friday night TV slot, however it is an exacting science in its own right and is often critical in the litigation process. Few forensic accountants have the spookily perceptive eyes of Silent Witness' Professor Sam Ryan, however many forensic accountants would joke that their job is, like hers, about counting dead bodies.

From there I decided to situate myself in an environment which would do this topic justice
