In this current environment we are witnessing the melt down of Wall Street, further decline of the US dollar and loss of faith in US financial institutions around the world.

With the exception of the UK the situation in Europe isn't that bad for the moment. Primarily due to the connection of the housing market and the financial system is less pronounced, and secondly because the banks are not as highly leveraged and less dependent on money markets than their US counterparts.
