When you are ill, you probably have zero interest in dealing with your health insurance company. In fact, they are probably the last person that you want to talk to. When you imagine calling them, you probably begin by cursing yourself for choosing an "affordable health insurance policy". Why? Their customer service hours are between the hours of 9-3:30, and the average wait to talk to a customer service representative is 23 minutes.
When you are ill, dealing with a health insurance company probably doesn't seem like it may be on the top of your list of things to do. In fact, if you are ill, you probably should do things like rest, drink plenty of fluids, and concern yourself with a swift recovery.
If you have an individual health insurance policy, you are probably going to have to deal with a lot more paperwork than if you have a plan through your company. An individual health insurance policy is also going to cause you more headaches, and probably cause you to make one too many calls to your health insurance company.
If you do end up calling your health insurance company while you are ill, remember that you are definitely going to need a lot of patience and a cordless phone. This phone is going to be a godsend, especially when you get put on hold for the fifth time, while they decide whether or not you can go to that specialist or if you have to make due with the prescription antibiotic that your doctor prescribed you for your temporary blindness.
While you are waiting on the "affordable health insurance agency" to answer your questions, make sure that you have something to do. You may want to have a book to read, your favorite television show recorded and other things ready to do.
If the health insurance company seems like something that is going to make you feel even worse, you may want to ask your doctor, wife or other family member to deal with your health insurance. Making sure that you get the right answers before you go to the doctor and before you get an expensive treatment is going to save you a lot of troubles and a lot of headaches in the future.
If you think that calling the insurance company while you are sick is worse than being sick itself, there is something that you can do: make sure that you read the fine print and don't have any questions about your insurance policy before you even get sick. This is going to be really important anyways, but if you know about how to get express authorization for an illness and what to do when you are in an emergency situation and need health care quickly.
Calling the health insurance company while you are ill is something that is probably worse than the pain that you are feeling. If you want to know what to do, the answer is probably in the fine print of your policy. If you ask and get the answers to all of your questions while you are healthy, you are going to save yourself a lot of pain and suffering and be able to feel better about yourself sooner, because you don't have to deal with the health insurance company.
