How credit reference agencies help

Credit reference agencies are companies that collect financial data from many different sources, including, but not limited to any business who are partners or members. This information is then provided to subscribers to the credit reference agencies in order to ensure the quality of the subscribers' loaning. The bill paying and money borrowing habits of consumers are the main focus of the information gathered and shared by the credit reference agencies. The purpose is to provide ample data to allow the lenders to determine the ability to repay loans and general credit worthiness of a consumer before money is lent or lines of credit opened. Interest rates are often determined based on this information, and loans may also sometimes be outright refused based upon the credit score of an individual. Higher risk individuals or those with bankruptcies and tax liens, are likely to pay higher interest rates than those without such marks on their credit reports. Any negative information that is reported to credit reference agencies will lower the overall credit score of a consumer.

Businesses who subscribe to one or more credit reference agencies gain a tool that is unmatched in providing valuable data about any consumer. Lending money or opening lines of credit with consumers without checking a credit report is dangerous, especially since most banks and businesses now use credit reference agencies, which makes anyone who does not check credit a very obvious target for those with less than desirable histories. Not subscribing to at least one of the credit reference agencies is tantamount to putting a sign on the front door of your home advertising the fact that it is unlocked. There are many individuals who would not take advantage of that situation, but why make yourself a target for the few that most assuredly will?

The UK's top three credit reference agencies include Equifax, Experian, and Callcredit, are bound by the Data Protection Act, which ensures that all data is up to date, relevant, and correct. Consumers have the legal right to access the information to be sure that nothing is misreported. Callcredit Check is the arm of Callcredit aimed specifically toward helping the consumer and not businesses.

In a day and age when it is easier to obtain credit than ever before, any business that lends money must take any and all proper precautions. Subscription to one or more of the credit reference agencies is one of the most basic but effective tools that business can use.
