Match Your Credit Card to Your Lifestyle

Are you one of those wise and fortunate people who manage to pay up their credit card balance every month? Do you give little thought to changing your credit card provider in favor of a better deal because you never intend to incur any interest charges? You are not alone because nearly half of all credit cardholders do this. Clearly if this is the case for you, then why would you pay the setup fee just to have a new picture on you credit card even if it is your favorite football team or mountain range?

There are three good reasons for doing a regular credit card comparison and switching to a different card.

  1. Encourage competition and keep the credit card providers on their toes. Credit card providers at this time of economic dire straits are continuously adjusting their terms and condition in order to squeeze every dollar of earnings from their cardholders. You will be getting notification of all these changes regularly in the mail and you may not realize the implications at first. Things you may find coming your way are; capping of points or an annual charge for just holding the credit card even if you never use it or a changed procedure where the credit card company will only accept automatic bank payments at the ‘minimum payment’ level.

Always bear in mind that credit card companies aim to make money from their cardholders and take business from one another. It is up to you, the consumer, to check that you continue to get the service that you first took the credit card on for. The best way to do this is to compare credit cards on a regular basis and switch to the provider that is gives you what you need.

  1. Get the lowest possible rate just in case. So you always pay up your credit card balance each month. You do not ad to the prices of your store or gas station purchases by putting interest into the pockets of the credit card providers. What if something were to get in the way of your monthly payment in full? Do you even know the interest rate payable on your credit card balance? Did you know that there are basic credit cards on the market that guarantee single digit interest rates for several months? It’s time to get online and find the credit card with the lowest interest rates and setup costs and get rid of that old standby just in case.

  1. Get other benefits by matching your credit card to your lifestyle. If you are a credit card user but never get into debt with them then you probably don’t pay too much attention to the trends in the credit card market. If so then you are missing out on some good deals. There are credit cards some  with loyalty schemes, such as cash back, reward points, AirMiles, so why miss opportunities every time you spend?

If you drive a lot then a credit card that is linked to a fuel retailer would suit you with cash back every time you gas up. Likewise if fly a lot a credit card with AirMiles for frequent flyers would be good for you. Shop around online and match your credit card to your lifestyle and reap the rewards
