With 2007 upon us, I hate to be the bearer of bad news as we all look forward to a new year filled with fresh optimism. Nevertheless, it’s easy to feel doom and gloom when you think of the new-year plans for some of the leading gas and electricity providers.
As if prices increasing on average by 39.9% on gas and 26.6% on electricity in 2006 wasn’t bad enough, a handful of the ‘big six’ are increasing their prices again as New Year’s day arrives. Scottish Southern Electric have put up their prices to coincide with the arrival of 2007 and British Gas has announced average price rises of 12.5% for gas and 9.55% for electricity on its Click Energy product, which come into effect on January 08.
Despite the attitude from the major gas and electricity companies, customers can still use the new-year to turn the corner with their bills. As many of you make new-year’s resolutions to sort out your finances, the best place to start is by switching to a better gas and electricity deal by using an online price comparison tool such as moneysupermarket.com.
In fact, moneysupermarket.com has a price rise calendar which tracks price increases from all of the leading providers and also includes a green energy comparison service for the environmentally conscious.
So don’t let the financial rip-offs drag on into the new year… take action now and switch gas and electricity to put the heat on companies to drop their prices or lose your custom.

100% Renewable Energy Web Hosting recommendations
By: Premasagar | 29-09-2007
I'm looking for personal recommendations for a web hosting company that runs its servers on 100% renewable energy (e.g. solar power, wind power). That is, not just a carbon-neutral, carbon trading scheme, where trees are planted but the electricity is not renewable. They must also be an excellent web hosting company - fast, stable, reliable hosting service with fantastic customer support.I'm looking for something like a reseller account where I can distribute a monthly chunk of bandwidth and disk space between an arbitrary number of domains.Plesk control panel preferred over cPanel - but willing to compromise... I've looked at ThinkHost, but seen mixed reviews...(?)
