“Pay Check” or “Pay Cheque”? Our Payday Lender Challenge Using Both

Through our years in the industry we've noted that some people prefer to use the term "pay check" while other’s prefer to use its European counterpart, "pay cheque".

For the span of your whole career your pay check is probably the most important part of your job, except if you are more passionate about your job than you are about receiving remuneration for your efforts. But nevertheless, your pay cheque keeps you alive, ready to work another day and, when the time comes, allowing you to retire in relative peace and quiet (if you used your money wisely).

But there are those months where the amount of money paid by your pay check falls just short of what you actually need, regardless of how well thought out your budget is. As such, there are payday money lenders which, as the name suggests, will lend you a specific amount of money, often not more than $500 until your next pay cheque arrives.

Now, before we get to the intricate details of exactly how this system works, it might be prudent to tell you straight away that there is a catch: Seeing as it is a short term loan, the interest rates will be higher and there will more often than not be fees associated with your loan. To keep these from increasing, it is imperative to repay the loan amount and the associated interest and fees with the arrival of your pay check. However, if you can get an advance on your pay cheque from your boss before the date upon which your loan has to be repaid, you may even get a reduction in fees or interest rates from the lender, thereby actually saving you money.

That being said, let's get to the "how-to" of payday lending.

Payday lenders basically operate in two mediums: in the real world (in other words, a physical building) or on the internet. When it comes to the application of the loan, both will ask a number of personal details from you that will include the date upon which you receive your pay check and, perhaps, previously received pay cheques (as proof of income and also as proof that you can afford to repay the loan amount). Also keep employer details as well as your personal details at hand.

When your loan is approved, typically the next day, it will be deposited into the bank account you've specified on your application.

Now as stated before, the loan amount plus interest and fees will be due on the date on which you receive your next pay check. They'll wait until the date your pay cheque is scheduled and if you don't arrive in person to settle matters, your check gets processed. In terms of the internet payday lender, you can simply sit back and relax as they'll deduct the entire amount due from your bank or credit union account on your next pay period.

And that is the ABC of taking out a loan from a payday lender.
