Has injury or disease kept you from trying to obtain a life insurance policy? If so, I suggest that you don't give in just yet. Granted, there are certain conditions that will definitely make you uninsurable, but unless you are absolutely sure you should get in contact with an agent and try anyway.
A few years ago I I came across a man that was certain that he couldn't obtain life insurance coverage at all because he's a diabetic. I told him that although I understood his situation, I thought it shouldn't hurt to go ahead and fill out the application, after all, you never know what will happen. You've probably already guessed, he was approved. I must be honest that even I was a bit shocked, but it goes to show that it doesn't hurt to try. In this case, the Underwriter sent a form back asking a series of specific questions and, |after seeing the answers|once they'd seen the answers|after going over the responses}, decided that this person was insurable after all.
I'm not going to sit here and promise you that if you have a serious condition that you'll be able to to aquire life insurance. That wouldn't be fair to you or professional on my part. However, just because you happen to have a specific condition or disorder doesn't immediately exclude you from consideration for life insurance coverage.
The final decision maker is the above mentioned "Underwiter". The Underwriter reviews the returned information and, after taking all things into consideration, she or he will make the end decision. Their job isn't created to single you out or pick on you. They are simply protecting the interests of the company and nothing more. They have a set list of guidelines that they are required to follow when reviewing applications for life insurance and their decision isn't personal. The good news is that you might actually be within these guidelines and not know that you're eligible. That's because you may have just assumed you won't be covered and that's not always the case.
If you have a disabling injury or disease and need need to buy life insurance for yourself then, unless you've already been told that you're not insurable, why not fill out a simple questionaire? By answering these questions you'll know without a doubt whether you're able to buy the coverage that your loved one's must have in the event of your passing.

Disability Benefits - Taxed as 'Income" or 'Wage'?
By: Stacy | 08-09-2008
Are disability benefits (when the LTD, for example, is employer paid) taxed to the employee as "income" or "wages"? I know that the benefit will be subject to FIT and FICA...but if the employee works in a state that also charges City Wage Tax (i.e. Philadelphia, PA), will the LTD benefit be taxed a City Wage Tax when the employee is completing their annual income tax return?
