Becoming a Professional Bass Angler or Fishing Pro

 Let me ask you a question, have you ever wondered how fishing pros are so successful? Well I will be the first to tell you, it doesn't come easy. These anglers put in an enormous amount of time and effort to become the best, to the point that it consumes a large part of their time..

If you love the sport of bass fishing and want to become a tournament pro, there are a lot of things that you need to consider. This is not a sport that you can just go out and call yourself a professional and think that you are going to start making a living at it. First, how committed are you? Because if you don't have the time to even get out on the lake to practice your fishing skills, you can forget it.

This article is not meant to discourage anyone from chasing their dreams, but it is meant to give a short inside look as to what one can expect if wanting to give professional angling a try.

First, it will take a commitment and the will power to over come any discouragement or depression, there will be a lot of ups and downs on the journey to becoming a pro. An angler really needs to know how to deal with all the hard work and disappointment of loosing a tournament.

If someone is able to conquer the down falls of competitive angling, now one needs to be versatile. How do you become versatile? PRACTICE. An angler needs to be willing to get on the water when ever possible, rain or shine. Not only is getting on the water important, but being on the water in all kinds of conditions and situations is the key to learning how to catch fish no matter what mother nature can dish out.

When a pro has a scheduled tournament and it's raining or the conditions are not ideal, the angler doesn't call it a day, packs up and leaves, a pro fishes no matter what. This is where the professional anglers time and practice on the water comes in play. A good angler will evaluates the options for attack in these types of conditions, because he/she has done before in a similar situation while practicing.

Next, one should join a local bass or fishing club and start fishing some local tournaments. How long should an angler do this before thinking about going pro? Well, that is up to the angler, a lot of it has to do with comfort and how well one is doing locally, it could take 2 to 4 years or more. Of course, there is that huge chance of not going pro at all, sorry! it's just the reality of it. By joining a local club will give an angler the opportunity to learn a lot from others, the more one knows the better.

In conclusion of this article;

Go after you dreams don't let anyone tell you different, but keep in mind that dreams are not easy to obtain, it takes dedication and the right mind set.
