Pike Tackle - What You Need

If you are going to start pike fishing or you have already started, you are going to need specialist equipment for it. In this article I will explain to you which pike tackle you need for catching these great fish.

First off in your pike tackle you are going to require a rod, you need to think about a few things before you go about doing this. You need to determine what kind of fishing you are going to be doing, if you are going to be using your pike tackle in places such as rivers you are going to need a rod with a test curve of between 2.50lbs and 3.50lbs but if you are going to be long range pike fishing then you are going to need a minimum test curve of 3.25lbs so that it will be ok when casting out a lot longer ranges.

The next thing needed on the pike tackle list is a reel, the essential part to deciding on a reel for you is to make sure that it can hold enough line. If you are looking for a good reel then I suggest you find one that can keep at around 190 yards with 15lb mono. If you look online or even in your local fishing shops you will be able to find decent reels at very reasonable prices, but you need to make sure that the reel is going to hold enough line before you purchase it, if it does not then there is no point in buying it.

Once you have got the above in your pike tackle you will need to go about finding a line, now I would suggest that you get a line which has at the least got a breaking strain of 17lbs anything less and you will probably be kicking yourself when you are trying to reel in your pike and it breaks the line from thrashing about in the water so much. Pike can be very angry and strong when you catch them so all in all you need to make sure that your pike tackle is going to survive the adventure.

Now that you have the above equipment in your pike tackle you are going to need to find some of the pike fishing essentials. Some of the essentials needed include forceps, pliers and wire cutters, there are a few others that you could take with you but these are the main ones, they are added to your pike tackle so that you can easily and safely remove hooks and cut wires instead of destroying the pike if something goes wrong.

Next is probably going to be the most important addition to your pike tackle, you will have to bring with you wire traces. These are used so that a pike will not bite through your line, as pikes teeth are very sharp it means that they can easily bite through your line. Wire traces are then used so that they will not be able to penetrate the line, you will need to make sure that there are no kinks in the trace otherwise its breaking strain will be severely affected.

Also you are going to need hooks in your pike tackle, you will want to make sure that your hooks are sharp and strong so that you can sufficiently penetrate a pikes strong bony mouth.

Cool, now you are ready for your pike fishing experience, good luck and always check your pike tackle regularly.
