Do all calories eaten in excess turn into body fat? Well, we can be sure that eating more fat and carbohydrate calories than our body can burn for energy, the extra calories of which will be stored as body fat. Then what about protein calories? Aren't all calories the same? Well, most people think so. However, the truth is controversial. At least, theoretically.
Since I can't find any research papers to confirm that extra protein calories ingested will not be stored as body fat, there is this theory that seems to support the idea. The lack of research to test this theory probably arises from the concern that subjects under clinical test may be under health risks as they must be put under a strict diet eliminating fats and carbohydrate completely and eat only protein food so that results can be measured accurately.
To convert protein to fat, it must first be converted into glucose and this conversion requires a high level of glucagon over insulin. This relativity can only occur when one has not consumed any food for 4-5 hours.
But to convert glucose into fat, high levels of glucagon over insulin must be present. A person hormonal balance can only be in this state when he has just eaten.
So theoretically, it is impossible for a person to be in both hormonal states at the same time. That being the case, how is it then possible for protein calories to be converted into body fat?

Should i ask for an appetite surpressor to help with hunger pains??
By: faith mackenzie | 02-09-2008
When I started a diet last week, I weighed 212 lbs. I lost 3 lbs in a week by just eating 1200 calories a day. I feel constantly hungry even though my meals are large and well balanced. I weigh everything and keep note of each meal and the total the calories at the end of each day. A typical meal for lunch might be: 100 grms of boiled chicken, 100 grms cooked carrots, 100 grms courgette, 100 grms potatoes, 1 weightwatchers yogart, 1 piece of fruit weighing 100 grms. Dinner is usally the same type of thing, but i may have 100 grms of lean hamburger mince or fish with the same amount of vegetables. I have 100 grms of sorbert as a desert. This usually amounts to a well balanced 400 cal diet at each sitting. breakfast is 40 grms of cereal, milk, a banana, coffee with milk and sugar and two rice cakes with a smear marmite and low fat cream cheese. You could hardly say that i am starving myself! I am 5'6 l/2 inches tall. Should I ask the doctor for an appetite surpressor or will the feeling of being constantly hungry go away in time.....I am retired and just do normal house chores and a little gardening during the day. I read from the above readers that i could in fact increase my calorie intake to perhaps 1500 cals a day. what do you think? i would appreciate your ideas. I would like to lose at least 15 kilos before christmas. I know I should lose 30 kilos, but I would like to keep the goal within reach for my temperament and spirit! many thanks, F

By: Carol Solomon | 04/10/2008
Overeating is an attempt to go numb. As one of my clients says "it's easier to stuff my feelings than to feel them." You don't want to think about how much you have to do, how many responsibilities you have . . . or how much pressure and uncertainty you are dealing with. It's just easier to eat. Read this article to find out how to change this overeating pattern.
