Exercise Fun Facts

Getting into a consistent exercise routine with the goal of losing weight, looking more attractive, becoming healthier or just feeling better about yourself is an admirable thing. Provided that you practice safe and accepted exercise methods, there are no disadvantages at all to exercising. All doctors, nutritionists and other health experts agree: exercise does your body good.

Starting an exercise routine can be difficult to do because it involves getting over the "inertia" of the life you are used to living. It can be hard to find time in your schedule to exercise, especially if you have a number of other demands on your time like work, relationships, hobbies and relaxation or "down time."

While starting an exercise routine can be hard, keeping it going consistently can be even harder. It can be reasonably easy to get a routine going for the first few days or weeks, but once you lose momentum it can be a challenge to keep it up consistently.

One way to remain consistent with your exercise habits is to get buddies to exercise with. Adding a social element to your exercise experience is an important way to stay motivated and have fun.

If you are having trouble staying motivated or just want to learn more about the ins and outs of exercise, check out these exercise fun facts to keep you motivated:

1. It is not true that different kinds of exercise build different kinds of muscle. However, you can influence muscle mass, muscle shape and amount of body fat.

2. Each pound of muscle in your body burns about 90 calories per day just in the rest state!

3. Each pound of your body's fat stores 3,500 calories.

4. You should exercise to "point of failure" when your muscles can't do any more. Adjust your weight so that you do 4-8 repetitions before you reach this point of failure - for maximum time efficiency.

5. Exercise itself does not make you stronger. It actually breaks down your muscles. Your muscles get stronger during periods of rest.

6. You should not exercise every day because your muscles need time to rest between exercises. Therefore, you should avoid daily strength training. Sometimes, up to 2-3 days of rest is needed between workouts.

Now that you are armed with these exercise fun facts, get out there and start training regularly! You will be happy with the results if you do.
