Excessive sweating is caused by the sympathetic nervous system which is part of our autonomous system of which we have no control over. Excessive sweating is medically known as Hyperhidrosis the most common form being sweaty hands.
A sweating problem is most often uncontrollable, uncomfortable, and irregular. In Someone that suffers from hyperhidrosis, often their bodies have surpassed the body's normal needs for thermal regulation.
It is not possible for most people to just become accustomed and deal with profuse sweating. A sweating problem can sometimes have sever physiological effects including but not limited to dehydration and skin infections, severe body odors and clammy cold hands. It can also wreak havoc on someone emotionally making most social, academic and business interactions very uncomfortable. Daily chores such as showering twice daily, changing shirts and socks throughout the day, applying deodorant constantly or wearing dress shields sometimes become impossible to follow. The most recent research and advancements in medicine have made many treatments available to stop sweating.
Treatments include: antiperspirants, botox, surgery and even alternative natural remedies which are very popular because they are inexpensive, all natural and non intrusive. There also aren't the potential side effects that medication and surgery pose. Underarm sweating can sometimes be controlled with over the counter antiperspirants. However, more severe cases may need prescription strength products. Antiperspirants that have aluminum chloride hexahydrate work the best and are recommended.
Applying an antiperspirant two times a day may be needed depending on how extreme your sweating problem is. Most users report relief within a week. After the initial period when relief is experienced some can take the application down to just once daily or every other day.
Many times a side product of severe sweating is unpleasant odor. Damp areas build up with bacteria and yeast so when bathing use an antibacterial soap. Although extreme sometimes shaving for a man of the underarm or other area may also help with the odor. A deodorant will not help to curb the sweating but will mask the odor. Antiperspirants will clog the sweat ducts in essence blocking the sweat from coming out.
