Since prehistoric times, when humans first discovered the advantages of clothing, it has become hugely important to us. As well as being a necessity for protection from the elements in many climates, it has become a means for many of us to express ourselves and our personalities in modern times.
However, when we are suffering from a yeast infection it is entirely possible to wear the wrong type of clothing. Let's look at three types of clothing that should be absolutely avoided if you have, or are prone to, these type of infections.
The first thing to steer clear of is any form of tight or close fitting clothing. We will look at more specific types of clothing in a minute, but anything tight is a no-no. These types of clothing will make it very difficult for your body to breath properly.
We need good ventilation all around our bodies, and especially the areas that are prone to yeast infections. For women in particular, the vagina is a perfect area for yeast to thrive, being warm and moist. If you wear tight fitting clothing around the crotch area you are actually futhur promoting the conditions that yeast loves.
Also think of the areas under the breasts, under the arms, and any skin folds. Let's face it, loose clothing is more comfortable anyway.
In the same vein, certain types of underwear are known to be great friends with yeast infections, and these too should be avoided at all costs. Pretty much any man-made material is going to be a bad idea. The main offenders being polyester, acrylic, acetate, and nylon, these are principally made up of long-chain polymers, similar to those used in the manufacture of many plastics, rubber, and adhesives.
One of the characteristics of these types of materials is that they don't breath well. They inhibit the flow of air through them. And this of course is a characteristic that we definitely don't want when we are dealing with yeast infections.
The best underwear is natural cotton, which wicks away excess moisture, and allows the air to circulate. This is one of the best defences against recurrent yeast infection. If you feel that you have to wear underwear made from artificial (man-made) materials for some reason, then at least opt for the type of underwear that incorporates a natural cotton crutch piece.
OK, we've covered tight clothing and underwear. I suppose technically we could call this next item underwear, but it's a separate piece of clothing very dear to some women, and I'm probably not going to be too popular for daring to suggest that they could be done away with altogether with great effect.
I'm talking about pantyhose. This item of clothing, from the late 1960's is probably the biggest culprit when it comes to clothing that causes and aggravates yeast infection. They are tight and close fitting, they are often made from man-made materials, so they don't breath., and often worn with polyester underwear. Basically a combination of all that's bad for your yeast infection. Don't wear them.
If you feel that you absolutely have to wear something lke them then at least opt for the crutchless variety, or go back to stockings. Follow these simple recommendations, and you will drastically reduce the likelyhood of yeast infections, and possibly stop them altogether.
