Flying will always be a stressful endeavor no matter how you look at it. People who have to travel long flights are undoubtedly the most stressed out people, even if they go first class. But there are ways to make long flights more comfortable, less stressful and more enjoyable.

People who have to take long flights should prepare for the trip way ahead of time. Plan the things you would want to do during the long flight and bring your necessities with you like books you want to read, documents that are overdue or music you have long wanted to listen to. Also make it a point to wear comfortable apparel and to bring slippers to wear during the long flight. It is always advisable to check in early so you can get the aisle seat which is definitely more comfortable.

Long flights usually mean a change in time zones and sleeping patterns. If your point of arrival has a later time zone, it would be best to avoid sleeping and sleep only following the local time. It is best to drink plenty of water to keep the body hydrated. Drinking caffeine-rich beverages like coffee or tea as well as alcoholic drinks will result to dehydration so these should be avoided especially on long flights. Drinking lots of water is one way of quickly recovering from jetlag.

Don't let yourself become stranded in your seats because it will result to a numbing of your joints. When allowed, it is best to walk along the aisle or take frequent trips to the restroom to keep your muscles alive.

It is better to request for an aisle seat during check in and then ask the attendants if you can be seated at the exit row when already on board. This will give you more room to stretch your legs.

If you are one of those who get queasy when flying, better get medications that will help you avoid air sickness. If you have some ailments then you also have to bring along your medicines with you during long flights.

If you are a very busy individual, you can take advantage of the time you have during long flights. You can use it for sleeping if you are sleep-deprived, or you can do other things that you have long wanted to do provided it will not disturb the other passengers. If you are new to your place of destination then use your flying time to read something about the place you are going to visit. There are plenty of in-flight movies and you can even request your own choice from the flight attendants.

If you are unsure about the type of food being served by the airline o if you are on a special diet then you can bring your own food so as not to disturb your diet. If you are on a pleasure trip, do not forget to bring your camera to document your vacation.

Always check if you have your wallet and your passport with you to avoid unnecessary delays and inconvenience later on. Always have extra clothing with you on board in case your luggage gets lost or is left behind. To keep off the air pressure that can bother you throughout the flight, make sure you chew a gum while the plane is taking off. Do the same when the plane is about to land. While you cannot really take the comforts of home while you are traveling, you can at least make your long flight easier and more comfortable just by proper planning.
