Football season has now begun and many individuals across America are stocking their cupboards with all the delicious foods that we like to enjoy so much on dame day. For most individuals there are a few common meals that just seem to go perfect with a good game, a crisp fall day, and a gathering of family and friends. Whether you're tailgating at a football game, watching the game from home, getting together at a friends house, or watching the game at a sports bar it seems that certain foods are meant to be served up with a good game. This year though you can enjoy all those wonderful eats and lower the fat content by just switching a few of the usual ingredients. With lower fat meals you can enjoy the game, and enjoy the food but without all of the guilt and the extra pounds the next day. These are just a few of the substitutions that you can make in order to make your game day spread just a little bit healthier.
First on the list is a favorite of many for football season as well as the fall and winter seasons. Chili is served in numerous homes on game days and very few can resist a hot, spicy bowl of chili. Everybody knows how much fat ground beef contains though but there is a much lower fat replacement that tastes just as good as its fattier counterpart. Ground turkey is being used more and more often to replace ground beef in chili and you would be quite surprised at how good it actually is. And the best part is that is cuts the fat in more than half, leaving you with less guilt the next day.
The next highly popular snack for game day that is high in fat contact is that delicious dip that so many serve with potato chips during the game. Not only are the chips full of fat but dip is high in fat content as well. You can reduce the fat content overall by substituting store bought dip with a home made dip made with either low fat sour cream or a lower fat plain yogurt. You can even purchase baked potato chips for an even lower fat game day snack if you're really looking to reduce fat content and the taste will be just as good as the high fat snack you're used to.
Finally, if your serving cheese and crackers you could try serving with ham instead of pepperoni in order to lower fat content and you can purchase lower fat cheeses as well as reduced fat crackers to reduce the amount of fat even more. Pepperoni is significantly high in fat as are many of the cheeses we love so much. Replacing these will lower the amount of fat we intake considerably.
There is no doubt we love our game day foods but that doesn't mean we can't enjoy them with less fat in them. Make your game days healthier this year with reduced fat snacks and you will be sure to be thanking yourself later.
