Quality the Biggest Concern for the Food Processing Industry

Author: Bjorn Olav Jonsson Author Ranking Bronze | Posted: 10-12-2007 | Comments: 0 | Views: 29 | Rating:  (50) Article Popularity - Green (?) Got a Question? Ask.

World health organization has mentioned some very strict points regarding the quality of the processed food and the food processing industry. This is the reason why this industry’s main concern is to provide quality processed food to the world. For this, they check every procedure right from food production, processing, transportation to retailing. They also suggest the retailers about how food should be kept to keep it effective for longer period of time.

To make sure that the food consumer will eat is healthy and unspoiled; it has to pass through various tests and procedures. One main reason why food is processed is to completely remove the microbes which are present in all food items. Processing is also conducted to prevent microbes from growing quickly and causing health related problems. The other reason why food processing is undertaken is to prevent spoiling of food by neutralizing enzymes and preventing oxidation. Enzymes are the natural agents that have the potential to break down proteins, fats and carbohydrates from the food. They are harmful for food as they can spoil the entire food if left unattended. Fats present in food have to be stopped from reacting with oxygen present in the air. If this reaction occurs, it will make the food go rancid.

The best food processing technique used from old ages is the heating procedure in which food items are heated to destroy harmful microbes and enzymes. Processing also includes freezing and it not only slows down the mechanism of enzymes but stops the growth of harmful microbes. Drying is also a kind of food processing as it reduces the amount of water and water is what microbes need to multiply. Additives play a very important role in keeping this flame of food processing alive and burning. Additives like anti-oxidants preserves oils and fats to go rancid. Additives like stabilizers and emulsifiers stops oil and water to change the quality of the processed food.

To make sure that processed food is of same quality, huge importance is given to the way of manufacturing. The manufacturers use modern and latest quality machines and systems to check this. This makes them follow same procedure and deliver best quality and superb taste every time they deliver. All food processing units throughout the world strictly stick to the standards set by ISO [International Standards Organization]. The quality of storage, transportation and the way shopkeepers handle the food items is also kept under strict check when it comes to maintaining the quality of the processed food. For this, the guys in food processing industry regularly educate the transporters, farmers, shopkeepers and the retailers regarding how to handle processed food and provide them with information brochure. They also tell them about the technical aspects involving the handling of processed food and factors that can affect it such as temperature and moisture. The food processing industry just wants to make sure that quality is the best and there are no compromises in it.

So, now we can see that how much of care is taken of the food that we eat in our daily lives and there is not a slightest point that you will get something bad from food processing industry. The reason is that they can turn the world upside down just to maintain the quality of the processed food.
