Soul Food Recipe Delicacies: How They’re Changing Southern Food Lover’s

Soul food recipe delicacies have experienced a change in the last 3 years. As a result these gradual changes are quickly changing southern food lover’s eating habits in the process. Traditional southern cooking is slowly going the way of the cassette recorder and the V.C.R. They’ve been replaced with a lighter and health - friendlier version.

Finding southern cuisine drowning in heavy cream, butter and other high calorie ingredients is getting harder to find.  Thanks to a growing consumer demand for healthier eating, fueled by angry protest from health experts and medical professional.  More recipe publishers and  public eating establishments are quickly adapting to healthier menus when it comes to serving southern dishes. Federal, state and even local governments are even getting in on the act and beating the drum and demanding healthier menus and recipes. All of this is in response to the growing concern for America’s growing problem with obesity, not only among adults but teens and children as well.

It has been said this is the most obese generation in  history and more government and health agencies are starting to sound the alarm bell. Soul food has had a tradition of high calorie ingredients. But now many soul food cookbook publishers are changing to lighter ingredients. In additions many are also changing to healthier cooking methods to conform with health standards and practices.

Soul food recipe delights such as sweet potato pie, peach cobbler and  macaroni and cheese is now made with less or no heavy cream, butter or lard based ingredients.  Now lighter ingredients and lower amounts of butter, lighter milk and crust made with less or no animal fat or lard based ingredients.  These and other changes have made for healthier eating, less calories and happier health officials. More changes are constantly being updated. I will continue to keep you informed of those changes. Stay tuned.
