Cristiano revealed to the press that, “I never said that I was the best player in the world. I always said that I was well-placed to win the Ballon d’Or.” He added, “I have always had a lot of respect for the other players. It is not necessary to say who is the best player in the world, but who has an advantage, and I was carried along by this hope. All the players nominated had the possibility of winning this prize. Me, I have had this possibility and this privilege, but all the nominees had the qualities to win the award.” However, Cristiano has more than football on his mind. Along with his Manchester United teammates, he showed support for UNICEF in the recent UNICEF Gala held in Manchester, England. The UNICEF Gala was held in the Old Trafford home. While Cristiano was in Old Trafford, he went to look at Manchester United playing in the Carling Cup. Sources have revealed that Cristiano may be trying to work out a better deal with his team. A representative for Cristiano said, “It is normal, that a footballer wants a deal to go with his status and one that matches his performances on the field. But nobody has prepared anything concrete. We want to avoid all these rumors in the press and will have contact with United. We do predict a meeting with Manchester United to speak about the future of Ronaldo, but still there is not an exact date.” Cristiano must be hard at work preparing for his team’s upcoming match against Brazil, where he’ll be facing football sensation Kaka. Regarding the match, Kaka said, “The match is important for me because we’ll play at a stadium that’s a few paces from where I was born.
