Green Bay Packers Brett Favre is a Prima Donna

PRIMA DONNA: n.
1. Often signifies a vain, obnoxious and temperamental person who, although irritating, cannot be done without.

Brett Favre is without question one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time. He is the NFL's career leader in touchdowns, completions, yards and consecutive games played by a quarterback. He has also legitimized his statistics with a Super Bowl victory in 1996.

With all of Brett Favre's accomplishments and accolades the natural assumption would be that he is a supremely confident man who would be willing to come to his own conclusions and stand out on a ledge alone.

A report early last week from WISN-TV in Milwaukee strongly suggests otherwise.

WISN cited a a source close to Favre as saying he is unhappy that Thompson has not called him since the conclusion of the season to tell him that the team wants him back.

Thompson addressed the situation at the NFL combine a few days later and reported that "I just called to check and make sure he's doing fine, and make sure he and I are OK," Thompson said. "And we are."

That Thompson felt the need to phone Favre after hearing the report lends credence to the initial source and suggests a history of such ego stroking.

The Green Bay Packers best chance to bring the Lombardi Trophy back to Titletown next season is with Brett Favre as their starting quarterback and most fans remain firmly behind the Legend, but this whole pat my back and tell me how much you love me routine Favre seems to want to play with Thompson and McCarthy discredits the notion that Favre's decision is 100% about his commitment.

Thompson is committed to winning as much as anyone in the organization and even though his legacy in tied to Aaron Rodgers much more than Favre, Brett should not question his commitment to winning by wondering aloud to friends whether Thompson really wants him.

The decision is about you Brett. Make it and live with it. Stop being so vain.
