I think that everybody remembers their high school mascot. Mine was the fierce husky that would drag their enemy to their death. Our school color was purple, the jocks would wear that girly color with pride with their sports uniform. Every time that homecoming would come around we would get our paint together and paint the Ponderosa Mustangs (Ponies) grass a beautiful color of purple. No self-respecting person in our little town would be able to handle the color of the rival ponies. It was the horrible color of maroon that with their high school mascot of a mustang that would make any self respecting husky sick. Our mascot meant something special to us. If you think about a husky, there is valor, loyalty, and trust. It is a perfect example of how a high school mascot should be. Every time that we would have a home game we would see the real husky that our school bought bring out the crazy boys on the football team. Just hearing the song Who Let the Dogs Out and seeing the majestic animal run with his loyal teenagers behind him still brings chills down my spine till this day.
One of the funniest high school mascots that I have ever seen is the beet diggers from some poor school in Utah. How can any high school have pride saying that they are a beet digger? Ohhh man I am scared the crazy man with overalls named Fred is chasing me with a beet in his hand. Yeah I don't think that that is the top of the food chain. Another one that just seems funny to me is the saber cats. Why would I think that that is funny? Well just the fact that they choose a high school mascot that was killed by small bacteria doesn't make any animal look tuff. I think that in mascot heaven they make fun of the saber cat. I am sure that Fred is throws his leftover beets at the poor little pussy cat that has tears in his eyes. The worst of them all is the winged beaver from Connecticut. I have never seen a winged beaver and I hope that I never do. Because if I did that would mean that I am going crazy and am hallucinating.
Everybody must remember where they came from and what they learned from their high school mascot. Just thinking about the little memories that I have from the simple dog that we had as a mascot brings tears to my eyes. A mascot can make or break your high school. High school is a very important time in all of our lives it can be a positive or negative time in our lives. But if we just look back and remember what we had in connection to our high school mascot. And what it has taught us. In life we forget the simple things and remember the weirdest of things. I am sure that everybody remembers what they had for a high school mascot. And whether or not they made it to be a positive symbol in their lives is up to them. I will always be a husky at heart running with the pack.
So I recommend that you look back to those crazy years and remember what you would do for your high school mascot and what you have done to represent that school again. Life is just a simple thing that we all have to get through good thing that we have simple symbols that help us find what we represent.
