The surprising and just two-time NFL Champion, the Arizona Cardinals are considered for some as the underdog of this year’s Super Bowl XLIII, which will be played on February 1st at Tampa, Florida. The Arizona Cardinals finished the regular season with a decent but not surprising record of 9 victories and 7 loses, winning the West division title. However, after classifying to the playoffs of the NFL, many expected them to lose in the first round against the Atlanta Falcons, but things didn’t happen the way people thought and the Cardinals defeated the Falcons in great way with a score of 30-24.
Even so, with people still not believing in the Cardinals game, they projected again that the Carolina Panthers in the following game would disqualify the team. Nevertheless, the Cardinals surprised everyone again by beating the Panthers with a shocking score of 33-13 at their favor. Getting into the NFC Championship, the Arizona Cardinals were considered once again the underdogs of the game but they proved them wrong once more with a great offense and teamwork. The Cardinals obtained the NFC title and the place in the Super Bowl XLIII by defeating the Philadelphia Eagles 32-25. This NFC title was their first conference championship and also their first chance to get to the Super Bowl since its creation.
The coach of the Cardinals Ken Whisenhunt has become a supporter and an encourage man for his team and even knowing his team has been considered the underdog through all the playoffs, he has focused his team on the importance of teamwork, unity and the non-respect theme when they are playing an important opponent. As well, Whisenhunt has pushed his team harder in practice to keep them motivated for was its coming in the Super Bowl against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
On the other hand, the coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers Mike Tomlin, expressed that even though his team is considered the favorite to win the Super Bowl XLIII, he believes the Cardinals is a dangerous opponent and a good team individually and collectively; for him is going to be a battle and a exciting game.
For the left guard of the Cardinals Reggie Wells, he believes his team is as good as his opponent and that his team can do great things at the Super Bowl game with their unconventional offense. “You throw on tape of other units and you throw on tape of us and we have just as much talent as anybody else in the league," stated Wells. "But people don't see that because we don't have the conventional 'run the football' offense that other teams do so you don't get the credit."
Anyhow, with the great defense of the Pittsburgh Steelers and the great offense of the Arizona Cardinals it will be tough to compare and match the Super Bowl since both teams are better in some areas of the game. The sure thing is that it will be very interesting to see what happens during this big game. Many people expect the Steelers to win the game due to their experience and the 5 Super Bowl titles under their belt; however the Cardinals have surprised everyone with their last results and have demonstrated that they have a good crew.
Whatever happens, we hope to observe great football and be witness of what the Super Bowl XLIII has for all the NFL football fans in 10 days.
