1 New York Giants - NFC Ease Division
Since New York Giants receiver Plaxico Burress has been sentenced to two years in prison on criminal possession of a weapon charges, Eli Manning is finding receivers, namely Steve Smith and Mario Manningham, who are third and fourth in the NFL in receiving yards, respectively. Both of them went over 130 yards receiving and are hot prospects on the waiver wire this week. In addition, 2009 rookie receiver of Giants - Hakeem Nicks will strengthen this wide receiver team as long as he gets rid of foot injury.
Although Giants' new defensive coordinator Bill Sheridan is a matter of concern, corner back Aaron Ross and defensive tackle Chris Canty's return will enable Giants' defense to be more indestructible.
Giants are likey to win the championship of NFC East Division.
2 Baltimore Ravens - AFC North Division
Traditionally a power running team, the Ravens have shown a strong balance on offense, led by Joe Flacco at quarterback. Their win at San Diego proved that their offense could win them games. Despite the loss of some strong players on the defense, they still have Ray Lewis and Ed Reed, at linebacker and safety respectively, to lead the way and make a strong case to beat out the one dimensional Steelers in AFC North.
3 Minnesota Vikings - NFC North Division
We need to admit that Vikings have undergone earth-shaking changes since Favre's arrival. Favre looked very comfortable in the second half of their 27 to 13 victory over the Detroit Lions. Peterson leads all NFL rushers with 272 yards and four touchdowns, and has been the driving factor in Minnesota's 2-0 start. If Pat Williams and Kevin Williams soon get rid of drugs problem, they will also make Vikings more stronger. But Favre is averaging a paltry 5.5 yards per pass attempt, and has 265 passing yards in two games. Well, as long as Favre can stay healthy for a long time and be more efficient, I believe that Minnesota is easily the class in the NFC North in 2009.
4 Indianapolis Colts - AFC South Division
The Colts are 2-0 and they lead the AFC South by a game over Houston and two over the Tennessee Titans and Jacksonville Jaguars. Indeed, the Colts' rivals seems to be not so strong. They don't often have a bad day this year. However, in the first game with Johnson Monday, the Colts allowed 239 yards on 49 carries.
Still, Colts' defense remains to be improved.
