The NFL is in duel this week since former NFL player Steve McNair was shot and murdered last week by his 20-year-old girlfriend Sahel Kazemi apparently because she thought he was seeing someone else or having a second affair, as he was already a married man. The police said that McNair was shot four times while he was sleeping on the sofa by Kazemi, who then shot herself, last Saturday morning at his condominium in Nashville, Tennessee. Apparently Kazemi was out of control because she believed that McNair was having a second affair with another woman. In addition, the police found out that the woman was having some financial problems since at the moment of her death she was paying for two cars and her rent was almost the double than what she was supposed to pay. McNair met Kazemi at a sports cafe that he used to go with his family in which she was a waitress six months ago. They started their romance affair and according to some neighbors, the couple spent plenty of time in a condo that McNair had with a friend. Kazemi’s family said that she was almost sure that McNair was going to divorce from his 12-year wife, Mechelle McNair, with whom he had four kids and was very happy to start a life with him, but after the incident a friend of the family stated that McNair’s wife didn’t even know who the girl was and that no procedure for a divorce had been made. The Nashville’s police chief, Ronal Serpas, said on an official statement that Kazemi shot McNair in the head first and then twice on his chest before making another final shot to his head then bend on her knees and shoot herself on the head, falling into McNair’s feet. The gun was found then underneath her body. "We do know that she was clearly sending a message during the last five to seven days of her life that things were going bad quickly," Serpas said, and added that there were no signs that she told anyone she intended to harm McNair. Steve McNair also known as “Air McNair” started his career in college playing with Alcorn State. In his senior season he won the Walter Payton Award as the top I-AA player and finished third in the Heisman Trophy for that year. He was the third pick in the 1995 NFL Draft by the Houston Oilers to whom he signed a seven year contract. His first season as a starter with them was that of 1997. The Oilers changed their name to the Tennessee Titans in 1999 and got to the Super Bowl in that season; McNair had surgery early that season but was fine for the playoffs, the Super Bowl was against the Saint Louis Rams and they lost it in the last minute. After that he signed a $47 million six year contract. In 2003, even though he injured his calf and ankle, he had the best numbers of his career including 24 touchdown passes and a quarterback rating of 100.4. In 2005 the Tennessee Titans allowed McNair and his agent to negotiate with the Baltimore Ravens and sign with them. After two great seasons with them and some altercate with the police he announced his retirement in April 2008 after 13 years in the NFL.
